Can we fix the double gate to keep small dogs in?

How are they getting out - under the gate, or through the gap on the latch side?

If it's under, the coming concrete should solve that - given a flat, level surface to swing over, the gates can be lowered as needed.

If it's the gap, the post that the latch engages can be widened up to 3 inches by splitting another gate post and welding it on. I've seen it nicely done by someone with no training using a cheap wire feed arc welder from Harbor Freight. I'm sure the city service department could do it in a half hour.

Thank you for your comment. I have brought up this issue with the city and they are looking into repairing it.

Constructive ideas are always welcome.

Just to clarify, when I brought up the issue with the gates at the July meeting, I was not referring just to small dogs getting out. When more than one gate is open at the same time, ANY dog can get out (and they have). I feel this is a significant safety issue, but there is a simple remedy. There may be a separate issue with a gap that small dogs can squeeze through, but I was requesting self-closing hinges on the gates in addition to large signs on both sides of each gate reminding people not to open one gate until the other is closed.

It's really helpful having the meeting minutes posted here. One request: for future meetings, could we have a little more detail on the issues brought up during "open discussion" so that those not present could have a better understanding? Perhaps the minutes could include the outcome of the discussions, i.e. pros and cons of ideas offered, why some suggestions may not be possible, next steps, who agreed to do what, etc. Thanks!

That is a good idea about the self closing gates and signs. We will definitely look into it.

We will try to get more detail into the meeting minutes too. It is really hard to keep up with our fast paced meetings sometimes.
